Are Unhappy, but no on knows it?

Sisters, come on in and grab a cup of tea and lets talk about ...Are you unhappy? Could you or someone you know be Depressed? Have you ever thought about it?

I was overseas when someone told me about the death of Dr. Timms. I always remember him because he reminds me of Will Smith. I later heard a comment everyone knew he was unhappy. That was an odd comment, I thought.

Imagine being sick and no one around you really caring?  Being sad and alone. I don't know the physical cause of his death but according to people around him it was a spiritual and emotional thing.

"I thought I was the only one who knew how unhappy Zach was, how broken he was, how afraid he was if anybody was to see any flaw in him. He tried hard to heal himself, to fix himself," Jakes said, according to LA Times.

It seems like most churches are silent when it comes to mental disorders. I really don't think many have people who are spiritual gifted in that area willing to help.

I think more denominational bodies need to have a mental illness branch for pastors and leaders. In the church we just don't encourage leaders to be transparent. Everyone seem to know this pastor was suffering spiritually and emotionally but it seems like no one tried to help him or know how to.

I am not saying Rev. Timms suffered from Depression but it sounds like there was some sort of spiritual sadness. Depression is a mental disorder.
The Lord has blessed our society with so many ways to treat this illness. The Lord cares that you are depressed.

James 1:2 asks us to “Consider it all joy when we fall into various trials.” Life alone will cause all of us to have mixed emotions but when you find yourself constantly feeling this way then its time to seek help. Christians should not suffer alone the Lord wants to help you in your current state. He loves and care about you. He is really concern when your sad all the time.

Eight major causes of Depression. (1) Biological factors, (2) Learned helplessness (sense of being trapped and unable to remedy an intolerable situation), (3) Parental rejection, (4) Abuse, (5) Negative thinking, (6) Life stress, (7) Anger, (8) Guilt. [Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler, Josh McDowell's Handbook on Counseling Youth (Dallas, Texas: Word Publishing, 1996), chapter 5; Gary R. Collins, Christian Counseling: A Comprehensive Guide, revised edition (Dallas, Texas: Word Publishing, 1988).]

If you know someone who seems to be emotionally down give them the tips below to improve the situation:
  1. After praying, talk to one person about your feelings.
  2. Help others by volunteering.
  3. Get out of the house-have coffee with a friend.
  4. Have someone check in with you regularly.
  5. Accompany someone to an event or small get-together.
  6. Call or email, tweet or chat an old friend.
  7. Go exercise with a buddy.
  8. Schedule a weekly activity such as a dinner date.
  9. Confide in a professional counselor or clergy member.
  10. Sing. Music can uplift your spirit as it did for King Saul (1 Samuel 16:14-23
Christians don't suffer alone get some help and reach out to someone.

  1. Thanks for sharing.

I would add one more thing to that list...Consider medication if none of the other methods work.

Some people don't know: A chemical imbalance is a medical condition--just like diabetes and heart disease. If we could get past the stigma of mental illness--especially in the church, then more people (including Christians) would feel more comfortable admitting they are struggling.

I speak from experience, and I'm thankful I am doing much better.

    Blessings,

  2. This article is on point. So many people carry pain inside but put on a mask of happiness on the outside. The "invisible" hurts can be the most painful at times.
