Yes, there really was a petition for the Sesame Street characters to come out of the closet and improve the perception of Gay Individuals to our preschoolers. Preschool is normally children 2 - 5 years old.
I believe this is an old story but for some reason this week everyone has been complaining about it and my email and text have been filled with complaints.

Lair Scott started an online petition which would encourage the preschool program, Sesame Street, to have their beloved characters Bert and Ernie enter into a homosexual marriage. The petition grew to over 1,600 signatures.
Yes, REALLY! This was a petition.
Lair Scott wants the change to help prevent bullying of homosexuals. He sees this as a Civil Rights issue. It seems like the group wants to incorporate the New York State's Marriage Equality Act with Sesame Street in New York with kids not picking on Gay people. Are preschoolers picking on Gay people?

Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.
