Sisters in Christ, Come on in and grab a cup of tea. Let's talk about ... creating a dream/vision board.
One of my favorite bible verse is Habakkuk 2:2-3:And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.
Wow! I love that.
Many of us were taught that we can not have it all. Many of us are taught that dreams are something you have late at night. But why does it seem like some women seem to be able to make their dreams come true while the others lives are filled with the "woulda, shoulda, coulda's?"
The only difference is a plan. Some women make a plan for their life while others just live life and wait for things to happen. But this is really not a biblical way to live the word reminds us to write it down, and have a plan. I know you have heard the Lord's word for years but just in case you have forgotten he says:
Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Matthew 19:26: But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 7:7: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Today I want to encourage you to make a Dream/Vision Board. What is it? It is a simple art projects with your dreams. You are putting it in a visual form. It is similar to a "All About Me," board you or your children created in Kindergarten, except it is filled with your dreams and desires. This is something I remember making as a child; however, I think it was thrown away after I got my grade. You are going to keep this where you can see it. The point is to keep looking at it and know you plans.
As an adult we some times forget our dreams and desires. I don't think they die, we just put them way back in the closet of our brains. But the mere act of reaching for goals made our life exciting. You can complete this activity on a Girls Night Out or just by yourself.
It is something fun that you can do and it doesn't take much time.
You will need the following:
- poster board
- magazines
- scissors
- glue
- markers
Take some time and think about your dreams and desires for the next 5 years. If you had enough money what are some things you would like to do or experience? Come on, you do remember how to dream again?
You are going to make a collage. It's okay if it is messy. Let's bring back a little fun and play back into your life.
Cut out pictures that fall under the following categories: Things I want to do, Places I want to go, Things I want to have/get, and Career/How I can make a difference. What is your deepest dreams. Find pictures or words that go with your dreams and desire for the next 5 years and start gluing.
It is that simple!

No look at your creation. What type of things are on your board? Did you forget anything. This board is a positive thing. We are not regretting our past. We are planning for the future.
Stop!!! Pray, and ask the Lord to help you be open to receive this new change in your life as you seek change in your life. Pray that the Lord will bless you with your dreams and desire. Pray that he will help you believe in yourself and with all the gifts and talents he has already given you.
You will now find a place in your room or closet where you can see the poster board. I want you to try to look at the board every week. What type of things do you need to do or change so you can achieve these goals. Which are attainable right now? Which cost money? Which are totally up to the Lord to open the door? You have to trust and believe that NOTHING is impossible for the Lord. Take a moment an just look and soak in your passion.
For example, I dream of owning a Condo on the beach. When I go on my next vacation I have already decided that I am going to visit a few Condo at the beach so I can see my options and how much this actually cost. You now have all your dreams in one place and now you need to get an action plan together. How can I move to the next level of actually achieving these goals.
Some one in one of my workshop asked about using Pinterest but I do not think this is right for first timers. You can use it if you want to publicize the dream. I prefer if you have something you can touch and feel and even pass by. I did hear about the young man who planned his bride wedding using her fantasy Pinterest wedding page, but I feel when you are ready to share you can to those you chose.
There is an old saying: If you believe it, you will achieve it. Give the Lord your dreams and desires and trust that he will let you achieve it.
Have you ever made a dream/vision board?
Are you in the middle of achieving your 5 year goal?

ReplyDeleteThanks for the scriptures and inspiration. Most Christians will not attempt to try this because they might think it is too," metaphysical" or too, "name it and claim it." I am really excited to see what God will do. God bless you richly.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't anything metaphysical or name it claim it with my vision board. The Lord gave us our gifts and desire. He tells us what he wants us to do if you become still you can hear his voice. Christians should know the difference between HIS voice and their own. We can't control the Lord's timing for when things will manifest in our life; however, most of us do not trust God and let FEAR, which isn't from the Lord control us and stop us from achieving success in the kingdom. We listen to people and not to God.

Thank you, for the directions on how to create a vision board. I am about to create my first board.
ReplyDeleteWondering about the time frame, when my ladies meet on week night we have roughly 2 hours, is that enough time or should I plan a Saturday workshop type deal? I want them to be nice.
ReplyDeleteAnd the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
ReplyDeleteHabakkuk 2:2
The vision (prophesy) was first and foremost about Jesus. It was not about a Ferrari, exotic vacation or a McMansion. Secondly, a simple reading of the Scripture shows that the vision that was to be written was not meant for the prophet but was meant as a warning to others. Third, were verses one, three, and four read before deciding this was Scripture to use to support creating a vision board with visions of everything but Jesus? Is your vision board about warning others of what’s to come or is it only about what you want or think you need? If it’s the latter, you should not be using Habakkuk to support your position. Moreover, all prophetic books are about telling people what is to come- Jesus- so they may repent. The vision in Habakkuk was about warning people so they could repent. It is problematic when this Scripture is watered down to say that the vision entails putting glossy pictures of material items on a piece of cardboard.
St.Mark 11:24- Therefore I say unto you; What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. KJV
